It remained largely a quiet farming community until after World War II when Chicagoans began to look for affordable homes with good schools in which to educate their children. Countryside was incorporated in 1960.
Transportation
Interstates 294 and 55 pass through the southern edge of the city and Route 66 runs through it. The City offers accessibility to Chicago and with its population of approximately 6,000 is a close-knit community.
Schools
There are three elementary school districts serving Countryside. They feed into the Lyons Township High School District. The Countryside Recreation Department maintains seven recreation areas and offers a wide variety of sporting activities and special interest programs.
